Rent arrears collection (huslejeinkasso)

Rent arrears collection is the recovery of unpaid rent — with its own rules for the formal demand, termination of the tenancy and eviction.
In practice
Rent cases follow their own sequence, and it is a strict one: a formal demand under the rules of Lejeloven (the Danish Tenancy Act), then termination of the tenancy, and only then may eviction be requested at the bailiff’s court (fogedretten).
The formalities are decisive. If the demand is wrongly worded or the deadline too short, the termination does not hold and the whole case collapses — and the tenant stays put while the arrears grow.
Where it commonly goes wrong
- An ordinary collection demand is used. Lejeloven has its own requirements for the letter.
