The courts' case portal is the system in which civil cases are filed and run — the written exchange, the exhibits and the deadlines all sit there.

In practice
The case portal is where a civil case actually lives. The writ is filed there, the other side replies there, the exhibits are uploaded there, and the deadlines sit there. If something has not been put on the portal, it does not exist in the case.
That sounds administrative, and it is. But it is also where cases are lost on formalities: an exhibit uploaded in the wrong format or under the wrong heading, a deadline that ran while nobody was looking. The portal does not send anyone out to remind you.
For a creditor running one case a year, the learning curve is out of proportion to the return. It is one of the more prosaic reasons to let the case be run by someone who is in the system every day.
Where it commonly goes wrong
- Exhibits are uploaded without structure. The court has to be able to find what is being referred to. A disorganised bundle weakens an otherwise good case.
- Deadlines are not tracked in the portal. They are there, but only whoever logs in sees them.
